Thoughtless Thursday: Cute Thanksgiving Cat Video
I found this really cute Thanksgiving video with a kitten. A Chihuahua looking dog makes a cameo in it, and the end of the video is pretty funny. Unfortunately, Olivia doesn't have a pilgrim costume of her own.

Thoughtless Thursday: Big Deal Thursday
Yesterday I jumped back into blogging (head first, no less) after a four month hiatus (if you'd like to know what Olivia and I were doing during that time please check out the post and I promise it will get you all caught up).
So, anyways, back to the whole jumping back in head first... I had read many months back that having a blog that used a URL with wordpress/blogspot/etc at the end of it was kind of cheesy, it went on to say that not paying for your own domain name detracted from the legit-ness of your blog. I found that to be offensive! My blog URL ends in .blogspot! And my blog is awesome... even though I have, like, 3 people reading it.-- I had thought, insulted.
But yesterday I decided one way I could keep myself writing and from abandoning my blog again was by investing money (not just my very limited free time) into it. If I paid money for some aspect of it I figure that I'm less apt to make excuses for why I'm not writing. So I looked into how I could get a domain name. And I bought one.

I am now the proud owner of www.oliviashuman.com-- and I'm really quite excited! While I don't think this is a step that will make or break my blog (who knows, I could be very wrong) I am pretty pumped about this big step/decision I made for my blog, my writing, and my brand. I know I haven't been so good about any of those things lately but I want to change that.... starting...now.
Olivia is also very excited about this next big step. As you can clearly see:

How to Make a Paper Penant Banner
For Olivia's Boston Terrier Dog Park 1st Birthday Party I made a paper penant Happy Birthday banner. I got the idea from something I saw on Pinterest and I wanted to share how to make one.
First I bought a pack of brightly colored card stock paper. I drew out a triangle the size I wanted and I traced it on the back of the paper (on the white side).
Then I cut out all my triangles.
I also bought a stencil for letters and used stamp pads my mom had in stock instead of paint to apply the letters to the triangles.
When I had one letter per triangle and had spelled out Happy Birthday Olivia Rose I laid all my triangles on the table in the order they were going in and got some ribbon (also in my mom's stock) and a stapler.
I stapled the triangles onto the ribbon, making sure to leave enough ribbon on the ends to tie it up and separations between the words so that they don't run together.
I made it over several days, but it really isn't a very time consuming project and it looks super cute when it's done!

Thoughtless Thursday: His and Hers Dog Products
At Petco over the the weekend I was highly amused when I realized they had his and hers grooming products for dogs. Obviously they weren't labeled for male or female use only but the packaging spoke volumes, especially since they were on the shelf next to each other. I must admit I have previously purchased the doggie face wipes in the girl specific looking container, and they smell awesome. The boy-looking products even had a hair gel, and I tried to convince Brian he should try it himself as he wanted a new gel but he wasn't moved by my argument.
I guess the thing that interested me the most is these products could be used on any dog, and gender. The companies are really targeting the owners, and I know I'd totally buy the STUD line if I had a male dog, so clearly these brands know what their doing.

Tutorial: make a super cute jar to put dog cookies (or anything really) in:
I found this idea on Pinterest and then collected the materials to make it. I also saw the idea in Modern Dog Magazine (I love that mag).
Except not only am I doing the animal topper, but also I'm putting glitter on the actual jar. I am not painting my animal topper but it is another option! Just as painting the car a solid color and then applying the glitter is an option. Really, there are endless possibilities with this!
If you skip the animal topper and just do the glitter you can put a candle in it for some pretty glittery light. You can keep these jars in the kitchen, the bathroom, your desk, or even use them as a center piece.
Supplies:
I'm making this jar for my grandma who just had knee surgery so I put some little chickens as my animal topper instead of a dog. I got my mason jar for $1 at a local dollar store and the red picnic plaid is right up Grandma's alley.
First you apply the painters tape (if you want the glitter to have a clean line, other wise skip the tape and have at it). Then mix the Modge Podge and glitter in a plastic cup, add glitter until you feel it has enough. Turn Mason jar upside down and paint the Modge Podge glitter on it avoiding the bottom (you can do the bottom but the glitter may come off of scratch your surfaces). Apply the Modge Podge glitter thickly so that the glitter is even spread but don't worry too much, remember this is art and it's supposed to be fun (and you can always add another coat later)!
Another (messier) way to do this, for thicker, better glitter coverage, would be to apply plain old Modge Podge and then sprinkle the glitter on instead of mixing the Modge podge and glitter together. The way I'm doing it the glitter won't be as thick and there is less coverage.
While the Modge Podge glitter is drying, use the crazy glue to apply your chosen animal to the lid. It should dry very quickly, but make sure to apply pressure to make sure the two surfaces stick well together.
***After your second or third or maybe your fourth (it's your project after all!) remove the painters tape while your Modge Podge glitter is still wet. Once it starts to dry, if you take the tape off the tape will remove some of the Modge Podge glitter and you will need to touch it up a bit.

Thoughtless Thursday: My Olivia Signature Stamp
I found a store on Etsy that makes custom paw-print stamps with your pet's name on it. She makes dog paws as well as cat paws. I had to buy it! I sign Olivia's name on lots of things, mostly greeting cards, and thought it was adorable! My stamp came out really great. If you want one too, you can find them here. They're also a really reasonable price.

Olivia Saw Snow!
It rarely snows in SC so when it does... it's kinda a big deal.
I'm from NJ, so the 1 1/4 inches we received yesterday was enough to be exciting and fun but certainly not "crippling as it was being described as. The great blizzard of 2014 it's being called by some people.
Olivia had never seen snow. She was a bit confused. She did think it tasted good, apparently. She'd stand eating snow off the lawn while holding up her back legs in turn. It was really cute. She did start snorting more than usual when she was breathing which I took as a sign that she was a little bit chilly.

if you look closely you can see her little pink tongue sticking out of her mouth as she licks snow off her nose. |
