Columbia SC Boston Terrier Club- Meet-Up 3: Boston Terrier Takeover

This past Saturday was the third meet-up of the newly started Boston Terrier club we joined. This was the first themed one and it was to have your dog wear their favorite spring outfit. Problem is the dog park is really dusty so I brought Olivia's outfit and she wore it for a split second and then took it off again to go  play. The turn out was great and the dogs all had a blast! There were a bunch of new comers too. Olivia made a new friend, a Boston with one blue eye named Maeby.

One of the Boston Terrier moms was joking that the dog park was taken over by an army of gremlins and later said "this is a dog park not a piggy park!"

Update from the Weekend

This weekend was a busy one! We attended the second meet-up of the Columbia South Carolina Boston Terrier Club. It was in the 40's (temperature) so a bit chilly and I think that's what affected the turn-out. Olivia was one of six Bostons in attendance. Other local people brought their non-Boston terrier dogs. Olivia wore her red barn coat this time out which made it a lot easier to tell which of the black and white dogs was mine haha.

On Saturday I received the new Boston Terrier hairbow that I'd ordered off Etsy. The price was right and it was cute, and I sort of have an Etsy addiction- especially for buying Boston Terrier items.

Sunday we went to a local horse show, Olivia showed off her new Minnie Mouse bandana and her new Minnie mouse leash. She loves going and watching the horses, and the activity. Plus, we met up with my riding instructor and her three dogs, who are Olivia's best friends.

And then, of course, there is Olivia's new best friend "Woody" a hunk of wood she found in my yard and is now obsessed with. She even tries to bring Woody in the house and miraculously always remembers where she left Olivia on the lawn. Olivia is really good about finding more... natural... toys.

Olivia Saw Snow!

It rarely snows in SC so when it does... it's kinda a big deal.

I'm from NJ, so the 1 1/4 inches we received yesterday was enough to be exciting and fun but certainly not "crippling as it was being described as. The great blizzard of 2014 it's being called by some people.

Olivia had never seen snow. She was a bit confused. She did think it tasted good, apparently. She'd stand eating snow off the lawn while holding up her back legs in turn. It was really cute. She did start snorting more than usual when she was breathing which I took as a sign that she was a little bit chilly.

if you look closely you can see her little
pink tongue sticking out of her mouth as
she licks snow off her nose.

Olivia makes a movie

.... sort of. I attached my new GoPro camera that I got as a Christmas gift from my parents, that I wanted so I could wear it on my helmet when I compete on my horse, to Olivia's every day harness with some clip-type mount that came with the camera that I have no idea what its real purpose is.

It worked pretty okay attached to her back but seeing as the clip went on sorta side ways-ish it fell off when she shook the second time (which was after she also slammed the camera on the bottom of three chairs. Thank God for the heavy duty case thing the GoPro mounts with). When we attached it to her chest the clip could probably still come off but seeing as it didn't get shoved upwards it stayed in place (it went on her harness for the chest like a paper clip goes on paper, directionally).

Mostly I did it because I thought it would be funny/fun to see things from Olivia's POV, but also because a family friend said she really would like to see a video from my new camera made by Olivia. She told me about a Kurgo harness that has a mount on it, and it looked really cool, but it got such bad reviews I didn't feel like spending $35 to form my own opinion. So I looked through what I already had and found the clip.

We enjoyed seeing Olivia's perspective and I want to try it more when she doesn't feel it's time for her to go to bed (we went on a 2 mile walk today at the park, so the tiredness is warranted), possibly outside? My dad's worried the GoPro will get broken, but its case seems pretty solid and it's even water proof so I'm not too concerned lol.

On a side note, Olivia got weighed today and she's 18.7 lbs now. I wanted a small Boston... but oh well she is what she is and I love her the same no matter what!

Here's the video (I'm not sure why the quality came out so bad... it looked so much better in iMovie on my computer :/ )

New Year... New Ideas

I see it all over. Facebook, mostly. Breed specific activity groups. The closest Boston Terrier group/club to me is in Charlotte, NC which is two hours away. So if I wanted/could attend one of their meets (which look like fun!) It would be at least 4 hours in driving plus however long the activity lasted. That would be a long day, not to mention I have other four legged critters here at home that need care (horses). I'd really like to start up my own Boston Terrier group for people in my more direct area. But I'm not sure I'd know how to go about that. But I'm thinking I'll look into it!

Anybody have any tips for me?

Christmas Carols

As Christmas approaches and I get in the holiday spirit, I've found myself making up my own Christmas Carols. They go something like this:

Jingle Bostons, Jingle Bostons
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a fart powered sleigh!

Olivia is quite gassy (I hear it's a Boston Terrier thing) so this one is based on the fact that Olivia farts constantly whether she has to go potty or not.

Hark the Harley
Olivia sings,
Glory to Fern Louise!

So Harley is my cat and those of you who read my previous post from Monday know that Fern Louise is my parent's/the family dog.

My own bad singing made me interested in other pet related takes on the classics, this is what I came up with:

But First, my favorite dog Christmas video... yes it does star a Boston....

Ok, here's the Christmas carols:

Happy National Mutt Day!

Today is National Mutt Day! I'd like to dedicate this blog post to my family dog/my parent's dog Fern Louise.

We got Fern Louise at one of those huge Pet Adoption Fairs that I found on Pet Finder in 2010. It was in a mall parking lot. My parents and I had lost the second of our two greyhounds a few months before and my mom and I were missing having a dog. My dad wanted to wait until we made the move from New Jersey to South Carolina but I didn't want to wait that long. The house just wasn't a home without a dog!

My mom and convinced my dad to take us and there we found a scared and sad looking terrier mix, sitting like a bowling pin in her chain link enclosure. Her shelter name was Mustang Sally, she was estimated at 10 months old, and she was rescued by the group who had her from a kill shelter in Georgia. It was the second day of the adoption fair and we were told someone was going to adopt her the previous day but pulled out.

We became that scared little dog's Furrrr-ever Family. My mom liked the name Fern Louise, which she had gotten out of a book she had once read, 1000 White Women

Fern came with her fair share of baggage. She can feel a storm coming hours before it hits, she's terrified of loud noises (gun shots, fire works, thunder), she's dog aggressive with dogs she doesn't know. Despite that, she has friends- my riding instructor's 3 dogs (a Boston, a Carolina Ditch Dog [mutt], and a Golden), another friend's Lab, and not to be forgotten, Olivia. She loves to play and wrestle and frolic with Olivia for hours- but we did have to be careful with introducing them.

Fern is a good dog, a sweet dog, and my family is happy to call Fern ours.

Halloween Outing

My dad is part of a car club here in town and two of the couples' church has a little trick-or-treating thing for kids. The car club along with other townies park their cars at the church and the kids went from car to car collecting candy. I brought Olivia dressed as a bat and the kids loved it! (I'm saving my favorite picture for Wordless Wednesday).

Olivia and Friends Go to the Horse Show

So I've been super busy but I'm finally getting to post this!

Olivia and I got up at 5am this past saturday, and went with my riding instructor to a horse show that she was competing at. We drove in her sedan with her, her Golden Retriever, her large Carolina Ditch Dog (mutt), and her Boston. It felt like a clown car. Haha. Not even sure how we all fit!

Olivia's favorite part of the day was playing in the water jumps with her buddies, which I was really proud of her for. Since her horrific incident of terror (falling in my pool at about 9-10 weeks old and sinking like a stone) she has had an understandable aversion to water. But on Saturday she hopped right in with the rest of them for the first time! What a brave puppy! The water was dyed blue and I was worried I'd have a blue Boston, it didn't stain her but she definitely got a bath when we got home!

my phone cam was in panorama mode... so Olivia looks like she has 2 heads!
